What’s Scott been up to?
I was first introduced to Social Investment Scotland this past fall. Thomas Gillan spoke to my program at the University of Edinburgh, where I was completing my MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Thomas’s presentation describing SIS’s mission to make a lasting, sustainable impact on communities really resonated with our group.
The idea of using business for good has been an interest of mine for a long time. In fact, the first business I started was a social enterprise and that was at the sprite age of 12.
When I caught wind that SIS was one of the potential companies offering a consultancy project the following semester, I knew that was the project I wanted to work on. My colleagues and I had the opportunity to develop a stakeholder engagement strategy for a potential Mission-Led Fund. After completion of the project, I came on board to continue working on a few recommendations that our team put forth and help move a few other projects along for SIS.
I won’t inundate you with the gritty details, but my work has focused on the exploration of an Impact Hub in Glasgow and a Pitch for Purpose event designed to highlight the investment needs of entrepreneurs. For me, my short time working for SIS has been about gaining experience in the Social Investment space and actively supporting a company whose mission I believe in.
At the end of August I head back home to the great state of Texas to continue my entrepreneurial journey. My time with SIS has only reinforced my belief that business can be used as a force for good and I intend to continue to find innovative ways to make a difference in the world around me through the power of business.
Thanks to the whole SIS family for making me feel a part of the team and best of luck going forward!
