At SIS, we have use a number of frameworks and toolkits, and expert advisers, to inform and shape our impact practice. These are links to those we use the most. Each will be useful in different ways, for different audiences – we broadly indicate these alongside each link.

Scotland’s Sustainable Development Goals

In July 2015, Scotland became one of the first countries in the world to adopt the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Scotland’s goals are now mapped to the National Performance Framework.

Big Society Capital Outcomes Matrix

The Outcomes Matrix provides organisations with a starting point to consider the social impact they are trying to deliver and how to measure it. We use the Outcomes Matrix to help us understand the impact of SIS loan customers.

Evaluation Support Scotland

Evaluation Support Scotland (ESS) works with third sector organisations and funders so that they can measure and report on their impact.

ESS supported us in developing our theory of change and have a number of resources.


NPC’s team of charity experts works directly with individuals and organisations in the charity sector to improve the impact they have on their chosen causes.

Inspiring Impact

Inspiring Impact supports people who work and volunteer for charities, funders and social enterprises with free online resources and peer learning networks to help plan, understand and improve their impact.

B Corp UK

Certified B Corps are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment. This link has quick and full self-assessments, and information about certification.

A forum for organisations to build consensus on how to measure, compare and report impacts on environmental and social issues.
