Ken Barclay appointed Vice Chair of SIS
Ken Barclay has been appointed as Vice Chair, to support and ultimately take over from the current Chairman, Nick Kuenssberg OBE.
Since concluding a successful lifetime career at RBS in 2106 he has chaired the Scottish Government’s review group of Non Domestic Rates in Scotland. This review is one of several major roles that he has taken on since leaving RBS, including positions as compliance trustee for the Scottish Children’s Lottery, director and trustee of PoppyScotland, advisory board member for the Institute for Public Policy Research and chair of The Lens, a coaching and mentoring workshop for business modelling and innovation.
“Social investment has evolved significantly over the past ten years, both within the UK and worldwide, from a niche lending activity with low demand to a more mainstream activity, with increasing levels of awareness across the business, investor and finance communities. Not only is there a greater weight of socially conscious capital looking for a home, but there is also a much greater demand for that capital from the expanding social enterprise sector…”
Ken Barclay, Vice Chair
Ken will succeed Nick Kuenssberg as Chair in early 2019. Nick has been in the role since 2012, responsible for shaping and steering SIS’s five year strategy for growth. During his tenure to date, the lender’s income has more than doubled, as have the number of investee organisations. Staffing has increased more than threefold and the scope and standing of SIS has developed significantly.
“…SIS is well placed to not only help meet this demand, but also to develop new forms of funding appropriate to the social enterprise models of the future. This in turn will help SIS attract more investment from the wider Scottish and UK investment community. I am delighted to be taking up this role and look forward to working with Nick, Alastair and the team as it continues to increase SIS’s influence in fuelling the sector’s growth.”
