Four Square is an Edinburgh based charity and social enterprise supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

It provides support, advice, accommodation, and learning and training opportunities to people who experience homelessness. Four Square also runs the Edinburgh Furniture
Initiative, where donated furniture is re-sold to help fund its initiatives.

In 2022, SIS supported Four Square with a £290,000 funding package to assist in opening new, larger retail premises on Gorgie Road. The new store also became Four Square’s head office, with additional spaces for counselling and delivering workshops to service users.

Profits from the store maintain and support Four Square’s activities, which include providing accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.

Four Square currently funds 22 beds in hostel accommodation, 18 flats that assist young people with the move to independent living, and 20 beds in a women’s refuge available to victims of domestic abuse.

As well as receiving investment from SIS through the Scottish Social Growth Fund, Four Square also participated in our Ambitions and SIS Associate support programmes. Working closely with a SIS Associate, Four Square completed an options appraisal to consider different sites and potential funding opportunities, resulting in better-informed plans for the future.

“As a social enterprise, the services we provide can offer a lifeline to people in need, and we’re grateful to have the ongoing support of SIS.”
