Alastair Davis

Alastair has been Chief Executive since September 2011, although has worked with SIS since 2009 when he joined to run the investment team. Before joining SIS, Alastair worked with Bank of Scotland community banking and therefore has extensive experience of social investment. In 2012, Alastair completed the prestigious “Strategic Perspectives Non Profit Management” programme at Harvard Business School. He is also on the board of the North East Social Investment Company in England, has served as a director of Social Enterprise Scotland and is a past president of JCI Edinburgh. When not at SIS, Alastair is working on perfecting his entry for the next series of the Great British Bake Off.

Debbie Zima

Debbie joined SIS in June 2009 to support the fund manager of the Scottish Investment Fund as well as new and existing SIS customers. Debbie now leads on the Operations and Social Impact work at SIS as Chief Operations Officer. Debbie's previous life has seen her working in England and the USA, where she was the Director of Operations for 10 years for IFF the largest CDFI in the Midwest of America. Debbie is a keen jogger and participates in one half marathon per year to raise money for local charities. Meet Debbie

Thomas Gillan

Thomas is responsible for the financial management and strategic planning within SIS; working closely with Alastair to deliver the overall vision and mission of the organisation. He is passionate about mission-led entrepreneurship, connecting organisations with investors to support inclusive growth and social impact. Prior to joining SIS, Thomas worked in the corporate finance team at RSM Tenon in Edinburgh. Thomas' favourite sport is golf and he regularly plays to try and improve his handicap of 7 (update… now 8!).

Roger joins SIS from his role as chief executive officer of Social Enterprise East Midlands (SEEM) where he helped third sector organisations across the Midlands, South Yorkshire and London prepare for taking on investment. He's excited to be joining SIS at a time when the social enterprise sector in Scotland is thriving, and his work will be focussed on developing and promoting new social finance models, establishing new partnerships for SIS and supporting Scotland’s social enterprises in their preparations for taking on investment.

Lorna Baird

Lorna is the Lead Business Support Manager for SIS.  She delivers three programmes of business support including: AsSISt an investment readiness programme; the award winning Asda Social Enterprise Supplier Development Academy and regional Buy Social Academies.  Lorna works closely with social enterprises offering practical, one to one support to find new routes to market and the appropriate investment to grow and scale. Previously, Lorna worked as the Social Enterprise Advisor for Business Gateway Edinburgh and ran her own successful social enterprise and marketing consultancy for over 12 years. Meet Lorna.

Jill Barrow

Jill is our Financial Controller and oversees the finance function at Social Investment Scotland. Jill looks after day to day finance and governance – running the Audit & Risk and Capital & Finance Committees. She will also be working closely with Thomas on project work and managing relationships with key external stakeholders. Jill is a qualified Chartered Accountant after doing her traineeship while working at Baker Tilly, now RSM in Edinburgh. Her focus was on internal and external audit for the third sector across Scotland, dealing with big national charities and smaller charitable organisations, groups and academic associations. She loves the great outdoors and is an executive committee member for the South East Scotland Scouts and it is a budding triathlete! Meet Jill.

Susan Skehel

Susan brings to the SIS team a solid background working within finance teams for Scottish and Newcastle Heineken and BES, a division of Dun & Bradstreet, which took her from the UK to New York City. She latterly worked for a small financial consultancy firm in Edinburgh. Susan is a keen baker, member of the local book club and lists Nigella Lawson Christmas book as the best book due to the cocktail recipes.

Isla McCulloch

Isla started at SIS as a Project Scotland volunteer, quickly took on a permanent role in operations and has recently joined the development team. As Development Assistant, Isla supports in the communications and organisation of events and workshops at SIS. A graduate from The University of Glasgow where she discovered her interest in international development, microfinance and social enterprise, Isla has studied and worked in Spain, Singapore and Vietnam before coming back to Scotland. With a passion for good food and a keen interest in local food politics, she has been involved in opening and now running Scotland’s first urban community owned greengrocer. 

Fin Quinn

Fin was born to Irish parents in Birmingham and says everything she’s done in her life has always centred on the idea of trying to help and enable people in all walks of life. In West Bromwich in Birmingham, she was a local Youth Worker and helped to run a local youth club for disadvantaged kids in the area. In the 1990s, in the midst of the Bosnian War, Fin joined Edinburgh Direct Aid and drove in convoy to Bosnia, sleeping under lorries and delivering vital essentials to the Bosnian people. She has a passion for experiencing new cultures and new challenges. She has worked extensively in the private sector with Xerox and latterly with Police Scotland. She hopes to bring her acute administrative and organisational skills to SIS and is enthusiastic about the future of social investment and social enterprise in Scotland and beyond.
