Co Chumunn na Hearadh Ltd (CCnH) was established in 1979 and is essentially a retail grocery shop which is seen as a lifeline for the local community. In addition to the grocery shop it operates; a milk and grocery delivery service to the older and incapacitated population unable to go to the shop themselves; a cafe together with a craft shop for tourists in the upstairs floor during the summer months and a petrol pump in conjunction with a Tarbet petrol retailer. The shop is located in Leverburgh in the south of Harris and is the only grocery store in the area, the nearest other shop being in Tarbert some 25 miles away.
SIS provided finance to enable CCnH to extend their existing premises to create much needed storage space and create additional floor space for the retail of a wider range of fresh, chilled and frozen foods to meet increasing demands from local residents and seasonal visitors.
