Factory Skate Park
Factory Skate Park is an innovative project based in Dundee. Opened in 2005 as a purpose built indoor facility for skateboarding, inline skating, BMX and scooters; it was the first of its kind in the UK.
Factory Skate Park now offers a wide variety of activities for local children in addition to its sports orientated community work, such as homework clubs, band nights, school holiday clubs, volunteering opportunities, and self-defence and events. In addition, IT projects for older people and family fun days are also offered to the wider community.
The opportunity for young people to learn a variety of physical activities, artistic and life skills whilst improving their health and wellbeing is key. In addition, free Friday visits to the Skate Park for those living in deprived areas are offered which has a significant impact on the wider community. As a result of this great work, the Skate Park now has over 15,000 registered users who enjoy the wide range of facilities and activities offered.
Social Investment Scotland is proud to have helped finance the original building of the facility back in 2004, which allowed the project to complete without interruption. This money enabled the charity to also fit out a kitchen and office space suitable for their growing client groups. Factory Skate Park received other additional SIS support for two cafes in Dundee and Kirrimuir aimed at supporting their international work in Uganda.
We are excited to be working with Factory Skate Park yet again on the next phase of their development with the building of a £700k indoor play centre next door to their offices, with work due to start in June 2012 and opening over the festive period.
