Social Investment Scotland scoop UK social enterprise gong

On Wednesday night (12 November), Social Investment Scotland (SIS) was awarded for Finance/Investment Deal of the Year at the Social Enterprise UK Awards in London.

SIS have invested in over 180 third sector organisations throughout the past ten years and was commended for its recent £300,000 investment into a £15 million community windfarm in Neilston in East Renfrewshire.  Construction is underway on the four turbine, ten megawatt capacity windfarm which is set to earn the Neilston community almost £10 million over the next 25 years.

The Social Enterprise Awards is a national competition designed to celebrate the brilliant work being carried out by people and organisations across the social enterprise sector.  SIS was recognised for taking the initial risk of investing, then leading the co-ordination with other investors, and then sharing knowledge about best practice following draw down of the investment.

Speaking of the accolade, chief executive of SIS, Alastair Davis, said:  “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this award. It’s a fantastic result for us and an honour to be recognised by our peers within the third sector. We were up against some tough competition, so the win is a testament to the strength and expertise of our team here at SIS.

“At a time when finance is still hard to come by, the deal underlines our ability to take an innovative approach towards social investing, working in partnership with both customers and other funders for the greater good of communities across Scotland”.
