REQUIPIT
Background
REQUIPIT is a social enterprise that refurbishes and recycles electrical appliances and is owned by Bethany Christian Trust, the Edinburgh based homeless charity. The refurbished appliances are sold throughout the UK in charity shops such as Bethany shops, British Heart Foundation, Red Cross as well as a number of hospice shops raising much needed funds for these very worthy causes. REQUIPIT refurbishes approximately 8,000 appliances per year and now employs over 20 staff as well as providing training in domestic appliance engineering for vulnerable people. An important outcome from the work undertaken is the diversion of waste electrical and electronic equipment from the waste stream.
How SIS helped
The SIS facilities enabled the funding of the high set up costs of the workshops and provided working capital whilst production capacity and the customer base was increased . Without these funds REQUIPIT could not have started. SIS also provides ongoing support with regular visits where any problems can be discussed and addressed.
