Maritime Rescue Institute (MRI)

Background

This is a Scottish Charity based in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire on the North East Coast of Scotland, providing the local independent lifeboat service for Stonehaven and its surrounding Kincardineshire area by means of 2 lifeboats and 20 volunteer crew members. MRI hold equal status, and work hand in hand with the likes of the RNLI (but are not supported by the RNLI) and are answerable to HM Coastguard. As well as the lifeboat service they engage in Research and Development projects which serve to put them at the forefront of new technology and key maritime issues worldwide.

They also train other lifeboat crews both from the UK and abroad and provide educational and awareness programmes to local schools and other youth groups.

How SIS helped

MRI knew that, to progress and grow it had to find a means of lessening the extortionate lease it had historically being paying, by buying its building and strengthening its assets.  SIS provided the financial support necessary thereby reducing monthly outgoings.
MRI commented..."SIS takes a keen ongoing interest in progress and their friendly advice keeps the business on track."
