Glasgow City Mission (GCM)
Background
Glasgow City Mission was the world's first City Mission. Since 1826, they have been showing compassion to homeless and vulnerable adults and fighting against poverty/disadvantage in Glasgow. It aims to transform lives through the Christian message. Following decisions reached in 2004 the charity moved into a new purpose-built Centre in the heart of Glasgow in 2009, creating a place of opportunity that provides sustenance, support, inspiring activities, engaging training and a compassionate response to those in need in Glasgow. In addition to this a Child and Family Centre that provides childcare and family support, operates in the disadvantaged community of Govan.
How SIS helped
Andrew Low, Chief Executive, commented: "We received support from Social Investment Scotland in 2004 at a time when we needed help to fulfil some big visions we had for GCM. Thanks to the Social Investment Scotland support we could set our focus on achieving our goals rather than on how we would survive day-to-day."
