Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex

Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex (NSASC) Limited took over the running of Newmilns Ski Slope from East Ayrshire Council in November 2004. NSASC formed as a not-for-profit company in 2003 and later gained charitable status in April 2008.

The charity produced plans and sought funding to redevelop the centre and several years of painstaking work went into achieving the funding package required. In August 2012, the redevelopment work began to provide a 35-metre beginners’ slope and a second 110-metre slope for the more advanced.
The Complex opened fully in November 2013 to immediate success. The slope is open to all, with bookings being taken from schools, youth organisations and the general public. Sledging is also available and is popular with birthday parties.

Abbie’s Story

Abbie began skiing at the complex a number of years ago, displaying real promise. Due to family health issues, she was no longer able to attend as often. With the prospect of losing such a motivated young person, the complex decided to sponsor Abbie as a trainee rental technician, offering slope time and training in return for some general assistance during busy periods.

As Abbie became more familiar with her work, her confidence grew and she began to assist with lessons and at children’s parties. Abbie is now a self-assured and very capable part-time employee. She has also just completed her pre-instructor training programme, funded by the slope, and is hoping to achieve her ski instructor certificate in September this year.
