Everyone who works for SIS across Scotland draws on wide-ranging experience relevant to the needs of the sector. That can be in previous jobs or how they spend their free time in community activities. Their understanding of how organisations really work means they’re best placed to tailor social investment to your specific needs.
Alastair joined SIS in 2009 initially to run the investment team, however in 2011, Alastair became SIS’s Chief Executive. Before joining SIS he worked with Bank of Scotland’s community banking, where he developed his broad and extensive knowledge of social investment. In 2012, Alastair completed the prestigious ‘Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management’ programme at Harvard Business School and in 2017 was awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered Banker Institute. Alastair is currently on the board of the North East Social Investment Company in England and the advisory boards of Big Society Capital and Scottish EDGE. Whilst not at SIS or on holiday on the high seas, Alastair enjoys spending time in the kitchen working on his latest culinary creations.

Chief Credit & Compliance Officer
SIS’s Chief Credit and Compliance Officer is Alistair, who started in 2011. He is responsible for the company’s investment activities and credit compliance. Alistair provides strong direction and support for credit risk compliance across SIS. Alistair is able to support all types of organisations through SIS due to his extensive financial and relationship skills. He is eager to let organisations know that SIS is here to help and occasionally attends conferences outside of the office, providing credit support. Before his career at SIS, Alistair joined Bank of Scotland where he worked for over 20 years in various roles. His most memorable and enjoyable was the role of Relationship Manager. In his spare time, Alistair enjoys playing football and walking his border terrier.

Brian is an Investment Manager here at SIS. Originally from North Berwick in East Lothian, he’s come from a 30 year career in banking where he found his passion for building lasting relationships and coaching and mentoring organisations and businesses to achieve their goals.
Here at SIS, he supports charities and social enterprises to secure investment, supporting them every step of the way enabling them to develop and grow their business and their impact. Previously, Brian was a Relationship Director for SMEs across the East of Scotland, a Business Mentor for start-up organisations and roles in Business Development.
Brian loves the sea and sports such as golf, kayaking and body boarding. In his spare time, Brian is also a qualified Scuba diving instructor and acts as an instructor at Edinburgh Napier University.
Working closely with the Investment Managers, Brian our Investment Assistant, supports customers through the smooth and simple process of taking on investment. This involves securing and administering all the legal and formal paperwork required to draw down their loan and a variety of investment activities across the team.
For 12 years, Brian worked at Royal Bank of Scotland in various roles. Most laterally as a Portfolio Manager within Credit Delivery, Brian was responsible for completing financial analysis and credit reports for new and existing business lending requests. For 7 years he worked within the retail branches of RBS and then progressed to Commercial Banking where he supported local businesses across a variety of sectors.
Out of the office, when he’s not at the football club, he spends time with his family and looks after his two children.

Lead Fund Manager
Chris joined the SIS family in 2016 as the Lead Fund Manager for the Social Growth Fund. Following 19 years working extensively in corporate and business banking with Royal Bank of Scotland. Chris is passionate about building new relationships as well as supporting high growth and impact for social enterprises across Scotland. By taking time to provide voluntary support to charitable organisations and social enterprises, Chris has developed strong commercial experience through writing grant applications and providing an insightful perspective during meetings. With this experience, Chris has combined his financial and business expertise with his passion to make a measureable and sustainable social impact. Chris is a keen sportsman, taking part in competitive golf and fencing.

Chief Customer Officer
SIS’s Chief Customer Officer is Darrin, who joined us in 2017. Darrin ensures that SIS deliver the best experience possible for SIS customers, working with the investment and development teams. He makes sure that SIS is a delight to work with and that no matter how much the organisation grows, SIS delivers their exceptional values. Darrin relishes being close to our customers and ensuring SIS deliver them the best experience. He has always worked predominately within the financial sector, working in various roles within asset management, investments, insurance and banking as well as local government. In the past, he trained as a first aider for the Red Cross, has helped organise a school rugby tour to South Africa and has volunteered with a PSA. Outside of work, Darrin enjoys spending time with his family, friends and dog.

Chief Operations Officer
Debbie has 25 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector. As the Chief Operations Officer, Debbie has responsibilities in all day to day operations and leads on social impact. With a passion for travel, Debbie adventured around the world and settled in Chicago where she worked for 10 years at IFF, the largest CDFI in the Midwest of America, as Director of Operations. This is what embedded her curiosity in the social investment sector. During her free time, Debbie likes to spend time with her loved ones and is food obsessed.

Derek is an Investment Manager. His role requires him to travel all around the country including the Highlands and Islands, Argyll and the West of Scotland. During his travels, he regularly meets organisations face to face to discuss funding opportunities. With a strong financial background, he is able to develop business plans and financial information in order to support social enterprises and charities, allowing them to become more financially savvy and access investment. Previously, Derek worked at Bank of Scotland in Relationship Management, as well as TSB. As a lover of football, Derek used to play professionally for Dundee United and East Stirlingshire FC. He is always keen for a charity match.

Investment Manager, Highlands & Islands
Based in Inverness, SIS Investment Manager for the Highlands and Islands is Eileen. Eileen has strong networks across all sectors and is a wealth of practical and personal advice and support to develop community and social enterprises across the region. Having worked previously with the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) for 20 years, where she was involved in various Community and Business projects, Eileen brings SIS both public and private sector experience. In 2002, she joined Bank of Scotland where she worked in both the Business Bank as well as in Wealth and International as a Private Banking Manager for 6 years. In her spare time, Eileen enjoys travelling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Fin is the Operations Assistant. Her focus is to ensure the smooth running of the SIS operations and provide admin support to Alastair Davis and the senior management team. Fin brings her acute administrative and organisational skills to SIS and is enthusiastic about the future of social investment and social enterprise in Scotland and beyond. Previously, Fin worked as a Youth Worker in Birmingham, where she helped to run a local youth club for disadvantaged kids in the community. She has worked extensively in both the private and public sectors with Xerox and latterly with Police Scotland. Fin has been involved with charities both in the UK and overseas, and in her free time loves to travel and experience new cultures.

Jill is the Financial Controller who looks after the day to day finance and supports the governance at SIS. Jill helps with the running of both the Audit and Risk and Capital and Finance committees, as well as managing relationships with key external stakeholders. Jill is a vital member of the financial team using her knowledge of the third sector, as well as her commercial awareness skills. Before joining SIS, Jill trained with RSM in Edinburgh, becoming a qualified Chartered Accountant. During this time her focus was internal and external audit for the third sector across Scotland. She worked with large national charities as well as smaller organisations, groups and academic associations. Outside of work, Jill volunteers as a financial mentor for the charity Sported and is currently an executive committee member for South East Scotland Scouts. Jill is also a budding triathlete!

Joanne joined SIS as an Investment Manager after a 20 year career in banking. She enjoys supporting organisations to achieve growth and continues to support local communities through Social Investment Scotland. She supports social enterprises to secure investment and enabling organisations to deliver impact and grow their local economy. Previously, Joanne worked with Lloyds Banking group within the Corporate and Commercial sectors and latterly at TSB Business Banking. In her spare time, she enjoys meeting friends and watching her son develop his football prowess.

Lead Fund Manager
Rob is a Lead Fund Manager and works closely with everyone in the investment team. He has worked with SIS for four years. Rob’s role involves the assessment of new lending proposals and relationship management of a portfolio of SIS’s customers. He has experience of making and managing social investments to wide range of sectors including community renewables, arts and culture and consumer products. Rob is a Chartered Accountant and prior to joining SIS he worked at Deloitte advising on the sale of Scottish businesses to both corporate and institutional investors. In his spare time, Rob enjoys the outdoors and is a keen climber and mountain biker.

Business Support and Development Manager
Lindsay joined SIS in April 2018, bringing with her 16 years of experience advising and supporting businesses, social enterprises, community organisations and charities. Lindsay has supported many organisations in Scotland, and across London and the South East, to build sustainability, supporting them either directly or through partner organisations. Lindsay previously managed a small grant-making trust and brings expertise in creating social impact communications, frameworks and measurement tools.
Lindsay’s role involves managing SIS’ business support activities including our workshop programme, one-to-one support and social enterprise academies. Lindsay and her team are often the first people new customers talk to when they get in touch with SIS.
Lindsay loves living in East Lothian and visiting the beautiful beaches and countryside nearby. In her spare time, you’ll find Lindsay at the cinema, reading, swimming or playing the piano. Lindsay has previously volunteered with Oxfam and a community woodland.
Theresa has just joined the Investment Team where she will be supporting and assisting our customers to secure investment. She is passionate about the third sector and this shines through. For 10 years, Theresa enjoyed her role as a Commercial Relationship Manager at Lloyds Banking Group where she managed a portfolio of 200 customers. Over her career she has worked at HSBC, RBS and recently the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow.
Theresa volunteers at her local church and attends various charity walks. Previously, she volunteered at a soup kitchen in Glasgow, where she served meals and socialised with those suffering from homelessness. Alongside this, she takes part in Race for Life every year with her friends. In her spare time, Theresa loves to read, goes for regular 5k walks and spends time with her family.

Chief Officer, Finance & Strategy
Thomas is responsible for the financial management and strategic planning within SIS; working closely with The Chief Executive to deliver the overall vision and mission of the organisation. He is passionate about mission-led entrepreneurship, connecting organisations with investors to support inclusive growth and social impact. Prior to joining SIS, Thomas worked in the corporate finance team at RSM Tenon in Edinburgh. Thomas sits on the board of Broxburn United Sports Club, a SIS investee and an excellent example of a thriving sports organisation delivering wider social and economic impact. Thomas’ favourite sport is golf and he regularly plays to try and improve his handicap of 8.

Tracy, one of our Investment Managers, spends her time supporting organisations and local communities to achieve growth, enabling organisations to deliver impact and support their local economy. She specialises in community sport social enterprises and helps them to secure investment.
Previously in her career, Tracy focused on the distribution of Scottish Government funding to community organisations and charities. She was Community Safety Development Manager for 6 years and an Investment Manager for Museums Galleries Scotland for 4 years. Tracy is an integral part of the team due to her experience and sector specific knowledge. In her free time, Tracy spends most of her time with her young family.

Laura joined SIS in May 2018 as a Management Accountant. Laura has over 20 years experience in Financial Services where she covered a wide range of responsibilities from income and costs, staff management to major international projects. Her more recent project roles have focused on improving systems, processes, procedures and as a result she hopes to embed some of this experience within SIS as the company continues to grow. In her spare time Laura is an assistant leader at a local girl guide unit, is a qualified yoga teacher and has an interest in alternative therapies.
Steph joined our team in May 2018, bringing with her much experience of working with Scottish SMEs as well as her integrated marketing proficiency. Previously ‘agency-side’ at a marketing company, Steph’s background centred around advising SMEs on their marketing strategies, in addition to creating, implementing and measuring marketing activity for her clients.
In her previous role, Steph worked with several social enterprises and mission-driven organisations who inspired her to become more involved with the sector. Now, Steph’s role sees her develop and deliver the SIS proposition to our stakeholders, in an engaging way that can be understood and digested by all.
In her spare time, Steph can be found playing hockey, enjoying leisure activities or spending time with her family and friends. Steph has also volunteered with Marie Curie Cancer Care, Relationship Scotland, Girlguiding Scotland and as a Student Mentor while at University.
Louise joined SIS in April 2018. Louise has over 12 years’ experience in hospitality and events and began her career with Macdonald Hotels. Since then, Louise has gained further experience working on a wide range of events, in addition to weddings, hospitality, city centre venues and Stadia; including Hearts F.C. and BT Murrayfield. Louise hopes to bring her established organisational and planning skills to SIS, ensuring every event runs perfectly.
In her spare time, Louise loves to travel and looks to jet off as much as possible. When she is at home, Louise enjoys spending time with her family and little puppy Alfie.
Sean started with SIS in June 2018. Having worked in finance for the last 12 years, Sean has extensive experience gained through working for a multitude of industries from hospitality to Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival to other third sector organisations.
Sean is well-suited to working with SIS not only for his financial experience but also for his appreciation for social issues and initiatives to support them. He has always had a strong opinion on any of the socially conscious aspects of his previous roles and so he is delighted to be working for our dynamic organisation in this social space.
In his spare time, Sean can be found brewing his own beer as well as playing football, squash and golf. Sean has also recently taken up making guitars, after playing them for the last 15 years – a hobby which he tells us is expensive, difficult and extremely time-consuming!

Marketing and Events Assistant
Jason joined SIS as our Marketing and Events Assistant after over a decade working in the hospitality and drinks industries. He has spent a large portion of that time working to improve and develop several different websites, creating engaging content and working on SEO to optimise the performance of each. He will be assisting our marketing and events team to make sure that SIS keeps on delivering whilst continuing to grow. In his spare time, Jason writes for his own whisky blog and other publications. He also loves the cinema and looks forward to spending the weekends with his young family.
