That can be in previous jobs or how they spend their free time in community activities. Their understanding of how organisations really work means they’re best placed to tailor social investment and support to your specific needs.

Alastair Davis

Chief Executive

Alastair joined SIS in 2009 initially to run the investment team, however in 2011, Alastair became SIS’s Chief Executive. Before joining SIS he worked with Bank of Scotland’s community banking, where he developed his broad and extensive knowledge of social investment. In 2012, Alastair completed the prestigious ‘Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management’ programme at Harvard Business School and in 2017 was awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered Banker Institute. Alastair is currently on the board of the North East Social Investment Company in England and the advisory boards of Big Society Capital and Scottish EDGE. He was recently named SCVO Director of the Year – Third Sector by The Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland at its 2021 Awards.

Whilst not at SIS or on holiday on the high seas, Alastair enjoys spending time in the kitchen working on his latest culinary creations.

Lindsay Wake

Lindsay Wake

Lindsay joined SIS in April 2018, bringing with her 16 years of experience advising and supporting businesses, social enterprises, community organisations and charities. Lindsay has supported many organisations in Scotland, and across London and the South East, to build sustainability, supporting them either directly or through partner organisations. Lindsay previously managed a small grant-making trust and brings expertise in creating social impact communications, frameworks and measurement tools.
Lindsay’s role involves managing SIS’ business support activities including our workshop programme, one-to-one support and social enterprise academies. Lindsay and her team are often the first people new customers talk to when they get in touch with SIS.
Lindsay loves living in East Lothian and visiting the beautiful beaches and countryside nearby. In her spare time, you’ll find Lindsay at the cinema, reading, swimming or playing the piano. Lindsay has previously volunteered with Oxfam and a community woodland.

Chris joined the SIS family in 2016 as the Lead Fund Manager for the Social Growth Fund. Following 19 years working extensively in corporate and business banking with Royal Bank of Scotland. Chris is passionate about building new relationships as well as supporting high growth and impact for social enterprises across Scotland. By taking time to provide voluntary support to charitable organisations and social enterprises, Chris has developed strong commercial experience through writing grant applications and providing an insightful perspective during meetings. With this experience, Chris has combined his financial and business expertise with his passion to make a measurable and sustainable social impact. Chris is a keen sportsman and has competed in fencing at world-level and golfed at county level. He now enjoys cycling and exploring the many bike trails along the East Lothian coastline and Pentland Hills.

Karen joined SIS in 2022 as Head of Finance and Operations. Karen is a qualified CA, working predominately within the Audit sector where her last role was as an Audit Director with Johnston Carmichael LLP. She brings her experience of working with key stakeholders to help them deliver on their strategy whilst managing budgets, by understanding how their organisation operates and the key challenges it faces. Karen is passionate about helping organisations, and in particular, Social Enterprises achieve their purpose. Karen has spent periods of time working in both New York and New Zealand, combining work with her passion for travel. In her spare time, she enjoys planning her next adventure and catching up with family and friends over good food and drinks.

Kieran started his career as a youth worker at The Prince’s Trust, devising and delivering training programmes. He’s worked in social enterprise and business development for over 15 years in Senior Management roles, for a range of arts, volunteering and youth organisations. He was Chief Operating Officer of food waste and food poverty fighting organisation, FoodCycle, where he grew the organisations presence from 14 to 30 locations around England in under two years, through a social franchising model, in addition to running FoodCycle’s income generation and operational functions. Most recently he was Scotland Manager for Big Issue Invest, where he delivered a multi-agency partnership, engaging the private, public and third sector in mentoring and lending money to early stage social ventures. He is a keen cyclist who and enjoys giving back by being on the Boards of Scottish social enterprises, MsMissMrs and the TIE campaign.

Based in Inverness, SIS Investment Manager for the Highlands and Islands is Eileen. Eileen has strong networks across all sectors and is a wealth of practical and personal advice and support to develop community and social enterprises across the region. Having worked previously with the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) for 20 years, where she was involved in various Community and Business projects, Eileen brings SIS both public and private sector experience. In 2002, she joined Bank of Scotland where she worked in both the Business Bank as well as in Wealth and International as a Private Banking Manager for 6 years. In her spare time, Eileen enjoys travelling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Brian is an Investment Manager here at SIS. Originally from North Berwick in East Lothian, he’s come from a 30 year career in banking where he found his passion for building lasting relationships and coaching and mentoring organisations and businesses to achieve their goals.

Here at SIS, he supports charities and social enterprises to secure investment, supporting them every step of the way enabling them to develop and grow their business and their impact. Previously, Brian was a Relationship Director for SMEs across the East of Scotland, a Business Mentor for start-up organisations and roles in Business Development.

Brian loves the sea and sports such as golf, kayaking and body boarding.  In his spare time, Brian is also a qualified Scuba diving instructor and acts as an instructor at Edinburgh Napier University.

New to the team for 2020, Julie has spent over 30 years with Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group delivering arts and sports community sponsorships and a range of stakeholder events. Previous partners Julie has worked with include the Edinburgh International Festival, the Great Scottish Run and the Scottish Football Association.

Julie has many years of experience in planning and delivering large and small scale events with a passion for supporting projects which make a real difference to communities and charities.

In her Spare time Julie loves travelling, going to the gym and walking with her dog, Frank.

Selassi joined SIS in August 2022 as a Data and Insight Manager in the Impact and Communications team. Selassi brings with her a decade of experience from the asset management sector, having worked in a variety of roles in data management, operations, and client support.

She holds the Diploma in Investment Management (ESG) from CFA UK and recently completed a postgraduate certificate in Sustainable Business with the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership.

Selassi likes spending her time going to live music events, travelling, and enjoying good food with family.

Working closely with the Investment Managers, Brian our Investment Assistant, supports customers through the smooth and simple process of taking on investment. This involves securing and administering all the legal and formal paperwork required to draw down their loan and a variety of investment activities across the team.

For 12 years, Brian worked at Royal Bank of Scotland in various roles. Most laterally as a Portfolio Manager within Credit Delivery, Brian was responsible for completing financial analysis and credit reports for new and existing business lending requests. For 7 years he worked within the retail branches of RBS and then progressed to Commercial Banking where he supported local businesses across a variety of sectors.

Out of the office, when he’s not at the football club, he spends time with his family and looks after his two children.

Ling worked at Royal Bank of Scotland for ten years. Firstly, in retail banking before moving into business banking as a Relationship Manager Assistant where she was responsible for providing support to the Relationship Manager and helping customers through the loan drawdown process.

More recently, Ling worked in the healthcare sector as a business administrator, making sure all enquiries and transactions were dealt with in a professional and timely manner.

Outside of work, she enjoys catching up with friends over good food and drinks and planning her next holiday.

Derek is an Investment Manager. His role requires him to travel all around the country including the Highlands and Islands, Argyll and the West of Scotland. During his travels, he regularly meets organisations face to face to discuss funding opportunities. With a strong financial background, he is able to develop business plans and financial information in order to support social enterprises and charities, allowing them to become more financially savvy and access investment. Previously, Derek worked at Bank of Scotland in Relationship Management, as well as TSB. As a lover of football, Derek used to play professionally for Dundee United and East Stirlingshire FC. He is always keen for a charity match.

Siobhan Moore

Siobhan is an Investment Manager within SIS Ventures. She is a Chartered Accountant with a wealth of experience, primarily working with owner-managed businesses. Siobhan spent over seven years working in Johnston Carmichael’s Corporate Finance team where she provided strategic advice and guidance to clients across a wide range of sectors and at all stages of the business life cycle. She enjoys working with entrepreneurs, using her experience to nurture and advise individuals and teams as their businesses grow to scale. Siobhan joins SIS from Finsbury Food Group and is looking forward to working with the existing SIS Ventures portfolio and meeting lots of new purpose-driven entrepreneurs. Outside of work, Siobhan is kept busy with two young sons and loves spending time with family and friends. She loves discovering new places to eat and drink and has had to recently take up running to offset the impact of this pastime!

Having completed a summer internship with SIS in 2019, Harry re-joined the SIS family in July 2020 as an Investment Manager Trainee. Harry graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a First Class Honours degree in International Business, during which he studied abroad at the University of Texas in Austin. Now undergoing training with ICAS to become a chartered accountant, Harry works to support our investment team and finance team. His role involves the completion of due diligence assignments, supporting the legal processes on transactions and supporting the portfolio management function. Outside of the office, you will most likely find Harry out on the golf course or spending time with his friends and family.

Solveig recently joined SIS in the newly created role of Impact and Administration Assistant. Solveig supports a wide range of projects within the Impact Team, helping to grow SIS’s impact within the social enterprise ecosystem and beyond.

With a background in Administration and the Care Sector, Solveig brings an array of skills to help the impact team, and SIS as a whole, reach their ambitious goals.

In her spare time, Solveig enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring nature, and relaxing with a good book.

Oliver is SIS’s Finance and Operations Manager,  supporting and over-seeing the day to day finance processes and operations of SIS. Prior to joining SIS, Oliver studied and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Aberdeen before moving to Edinburgh to further his career within external audit at Chiene + Tait. Whilst here, Oliver had varied exposure to many small and medium sized Scottish charities including some existing customers of SIS.

Oliver is passionate about providing opportunities for learning and development and in his spare time helps to mentor University of Aberdeen students as they look to kickstart their career. Oliver also volunteers for Edinburgh South Community Football Club and is a keen fan of his hometown football team. He tells us his ability to watch is far superior to his playing!

Jason joined SIS as our Marketing and Events Assistant after over a decade working in the hospitality and drinks industries. He has spent a large portion of that time working to improve and develop several different websites, creating engaging content and working on SEO to optimise the performance of each. He will be assisting our marketing and events team to make sure that SIS keeps on delivering whilst continuing to grow. In his spare time, Jason writes for his own whisky blog and other publications. He also loves the cinema and looks forward to spending the weekends with his young family.

Annie joined SIS in August 2022 as an Investment Manager. With a strong financial background Annie has experience of working in both the public and private sector in roles across investment banking, not-for-profit business development and most recently as a founder and lead of a Scottish based start-up social enterprise.
Annie’s role is to work with third sector organisations looking for mission aligned investment and be there to support their growth and development aspirations over the longer term.
Out of the office Annie loves being at the beach, swimming and bobbing on the water, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

As an Investment Manager I establish and grow long term relationships with both existing and new customers within my portfolio. This involves supporting and helping customers with their growth and development through new lending facilities when required and additional business support functions and initiatives. Before joining SIS in August 2022, I worked for RBS for 34 years, advising and supporting Personal, Business and Commercial Banking customers. Away from work I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, I am also a keen cyclist and football fan.

Claudia joined SIS in October 2022 on a work placement as part of the 2027 Programme, a collaboration between the Centre for Knowledge Equity, Charityworks, Koreo, Northern Soul, and Ten Years’ Time. 2027 aims to bring fund-givers and working-class communities closer together to build fairer and more effective funding initiatives that reach the heart of communities across the UK and help to create positive social change.  

 Claudia has 18 years’ experience of providing advice in the community covering a wide range of subjects including family, child, adults with incapacity & mental health law, patient advice & support, money advice, and pension guidance. She also has a solid business background and her knowledge and experience span the third sector, tourism & hospitality, legal services and academia. Claudia has a keen interest in social justice and inclusion and access to services in rural and island communities. She is mission-driven with a passion for enabling and empowering people to achieve their goals. 

 She lives in rural Argyll with her family and their two lively dogs.
